Home Away from Home

As you saw in photos above, we stayed at the newly opened Sagamore Pendry Baltimore Hotel during our trip. Located in historic Fell’s Point and right on the water, this is undoubtedly the place to stay at for anyone visiting Baltimore. Despite the hotel being so newly opened (other properties in the same shoes often go through growing pains), the hubbie and I were so impressed at how even the smallest details were impeccably cared for such that our experience rivaled, if not completely trumped, stays at other 5-star touting establishments. With a curated modern art collection around every corner and an artfully designed, spacious courtyard, the Sagamore Pendry Baltimore felt like a destination all its own.

The location also can’t be beat. There is a water taxi stop just outside the hotel for those wanting to explore the inner harbor area, and the quaint Fell’s Point neighborhood is a pleasure to walk around. Sightseeing spots such as the National Aquarium are also just a short walk away.

Despite all of this, it was difficult trying to tear ourselves away from the spacious suite and hotel. I typically find it difficult to feel comfortable while traveling, but the Sagamore Pendry Baltimore was truly the perfect home away from home.

Cuisine

One of our biggest joys whenever we visit a new city is trying the local cuisine. To be honest, this was such an impromptu trip that we weren’t able to do much research, but thankfully every place we tried was amazing.

Ekiben served up incredible baos nearly twice the size of those we’re used to in NYC, and one of our most memorable meals was at Gnocco, a restaurant that focuses on Mediterranean inspired Italian and Spanish cuisine. The soft shell crab in particular had us pining for more, and the wild boar sausage ricotta cavatelli rivaled some of the best pastas we’ve had in Italy. A hidden gem in Northern Baltimore, farm-to-table concept Woodbery Kitchen also reminded us a bit of home (think Stone Barns meets Brooklyn).

Of course, we made sure to stop by a Baltimore favorite, Loch Bar, for oysters and other seafood classics and rounded out our culinary adventures with some Argentinian fare at Bar Vasquez for a romantic night out. And when we didn’t want to wander far from our amazing hotel, the on-site restaurant Rec Pier Chop House served up impeccable Italian cuisine in a beautiful dining room, complete with lofty ceilings and warm woody interiors.

Walk it Off

We spent much of our time simply walking around and getting a feel for the various neighborhoods of Baltimore. What really struck us was the vast amounts of intricate street art and murals that decorated so many buildings, which turns out to be a civic initiative in partnership with the city of Baltimore. In addition to the burgeoning urban art scene, there are also many museums such as the Walters Art Museum and the American Visionary Art Museum. While we didn’t have time to visit all of them (the more reason to return!), we did make sure to visit the National Aquarium, one of the largest aquariums in the USA, as well as the George Peabody Library, a famous library as well as stunning event space and wedding venue. We also meant to take in a baseball game at the Orioles Stadium, but completely last track of time simply walking around and taking the water taxi through the harbor. The activities listed above don’t even scratch the surface of what Baltimore has to offer, but I hope this does give you a good taste!

Recharge

I would be remiss if I didn’t recommend at least a few cafes and dessert shops! By far one of the cutest coffee shops we’ve ever visited, Order & Chaos warmed our hearts with their amazing hospitality, quality brews, and Belgian waffles. And of course, who can resist their adorable logo? We also loved starting our day at Baby’s on Fire, a cafe that also doubles as a record shop, and recharging with some amazing donuts at Center Cut Doughnuts. All home made from scratch with flavors like Apple Streusal and Lemon Basil, we couldn’t resist getting half a dozen all to ourselves!

In many aspects, our trip to Baltimore was even better than one abroad. Sometimes it’s all the more comforting to know that you’re not actually too far from home while still enjoying the novelty of  exploring a completely new destination. And if we ever did feel lost, we could always count on the amazing hospitality and accommodations of our hotel to make us feel right at home. Overall, Baltimore truly did charm us, and it’s no wonder this all-American gem has earned its nickname- Charm City.

A big thank you to the Sagamore Pendry Baltimore for such a great stay; thoughts and opinions are my own. Learn more here: Sagamore Pendry Baltimore.

As always, thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed!

I’ve never had Baltimore on my “Must Visit” list however, I’m penciling it in now! You truly captured the beauty of this city! I adored seeing it through your eyes! I judge a city, a good bit more than I probably should, based on it’s cuisine. The dishes, coffee shops, and restaurants you’ve include look truly exceptional! Sagamore Penury Baltimore seems so grand and beautiful! The decor is so charming and I bet you really enjoyed your own private balcony! What a marvelous place to stay!Gnocchi and Loch bar really stood out to me as I swoon for Mediterranean and oysters! If I’m going to go off of my plant-based diet, something like this is usually the reason why! There seems to be so many interesting things to do! If a city I’m visiting has an aquarium, I always go and really enjoyed your imagery of it! Thank you for the look inside this wonderful city!

Wow this is truly wonderful. I honestly can totally relate to this. I feel like during summer people are often expected to visit far away places. But I think it’s wonderful to maybe go on a road trip to local places and explore the world around you. I have never visited Baltimore but I have heard great things about Maryland and would totally take a vacation there sometime. I love your gorgeous photos, so breathtaking! Thank you so much for sharing this awesome travel guide I loved reading about it!

Wow, I always love your travel diaries! I was expecting to see London, but was pleasantly surprised by this post highlighting Boston. I have never been, but after seeing this post, it is definitely high on my list! I am a firm believer, that you don’t have to go abroad to travel. Sometimes the best places are right under the tip of your nose. The library looks absolutely stunning! I would just stay there all day! Sagamore Pendry Baltimore Hotel looks fab, I would love to hop on a water taxi from there. I am also obsessed with your J.W. Anderson bag!

I totally agree with you, there are a lot of hidden gems just around the corner, and sometimes there is no need to travel far away in finding them. I’ve never been to Baltimore or any U.S. city, but it’s on my bucket list and I hope, one day I could travel it across. The hotel you were staying at is literally filled with history and the past. I love such places so much, and the city itself has something very unique. It’s in the air. I love its emptiness and its proud look. And there are so many nice places to discover! I love the way you’ve captured it, every single photo has the city vibes in it.

Exploring your local city is sometimes better than traveling off site! I recently moved to a larger city, Dallas to be exact, and have just learned the beauty of this. And is that a steak I spy from Bar Vasquez? I have never seen so juicy and delicious! Though I’ve never visited Baltimore, I will be sure to check out Sagamore Pendry Baltimore once I do. It seems like it’s central to everything I would want to see and that water taxi is something else that would be new to me! I sure wouldn’t mind all that dining either having so many places to walk and explore. Out of all the food you shared, Woodbery Kitchen looks the most incredible!

OMG you visited the Pendry in Baltimore and I went to the SD one. The Baltimore hotel looks like such a dream and I would definitely love to go there as well as I had an AMAZING stay at Pendry in San Diego. I am just obsessed with all the marble details and the suite looks so wonderful. I have never been to Baltimore before, and only been on the US East Cost twice. Specially the bathroom! Omg the bathroom is super important to me when it comes to hotel rooms. It needs to be spacious for me, and It has to have a bathtub!!! Wow. I’m bookmarking your post Soo! I mean, I live in LA and Baltimore is quite far from me, but I’ve never even thought about going there for a trip. The Sagamore Pendry is a blogger dream. The marble with the dark interior design is absolutely stunning. The archiac architecture of the hotel is so beautiful. I mean, I love modern buildings, but there’s something about the artistry of older buildings that are really captivating. (But it opened recently? So maybe they just took over a building or did they build it from scratch?) All the restaurant recommendations are stunning as well. The Peabody Library looks like it belongs in Harry Potter! I love aquariums and I definitely need to come here if it’s one of the largest ones in the U.S. As usual, your post was stunning and it really felt like I was just reading a magazine editorial. So well done Soo!

First of all, the Sagamore Pendry hotel is so luxurious! Your suite is beautiful and the bathroom with the soaking tub is just divine. I loved the pool as well.
