Beauty Roundup: Latest Loves

Brown Eyed Toast - Latest Beauty Loves - June 2017 - Featured

Happy Monday everyone! Lately, it seems like there are new beauty launches every other day, and to be honest, even as a beauty blogger, it’s hard to keep my head on straight sometimes. There’s a new miracle ingredient here, an amazing breakthrough in this formulation there, and the list goes on! As a result, I’ve become rather cautious when it comes to these grand marketing statements and leave it up to my own research and trials to figure out what works and doesn’t. After weeks, if not months of trying many of these items, I’ve discovered a handful of true gems. And while I’m not a fragrance expert, I just had to include two scents perfect for the summer as well. Here they are, my latest beauty loves that are tested and true!

To provide a little insight into how I test beauty products: while it’s tempting to dabble with something for just a few days and pass judgement, I try to stick to my guns and test a product consistently for a minimum of two weeks (if not longer) before forming any sort of opinion. I also make very few changes in my routine during this time to ensure any effects are the results of the one incremental new product. (This is also the reason why it takes me quite a while to try new skincare goods.) There are also items I try on and off over the course of months or even a year, simply because I want to be sure of any recommendations to my audience. So rest assured, I stand behind my claims.

Lately, I find myself raving about the following products in particular. They follow:

Brown Eyed Toast - Latest Beauty Loves - Malin and Goetz and Caudalie Vinoperfect - 1

Malin + Goetz Vitamin E Moisturizer

Lightweight, moisturizing, amazing value for the amount – what more could you want? I’ve been falling hardcore for a lot of Malin + Goetz products recently (their Mojito lip balm is one of my favorites, and their latest Dark Rum Eau de Parfum is intoxicating). What strikes me about the brand is a streamlined focus on delivering good ingredients to your skin and keeping it healthy. There’s no nonsense marketing or hype. The Vitamin E Face Moisturizer in particular provides not only oil-free hydration but also ph balance, which is critical for those with acne-prone skin, but in general very important for all. This moisturizer is a must as we head into warmer weather.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Overnight
Renewal Cream

Cauadalie as a brand has always held a special place in my heart as it was one of the first prestige beauty brands I bought during a particularly trying time in my early skincare days (think awful dry skin combined with awful stress-related outbreaks). Not only did the cream work, it was my skin lifesaver during this time (the particular product was the Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet). The main reason is the brand’s use of grapeseed oil, which is amazing for oily skin. Recently I’ve been trying their Vinoperfect Overnight Renewal Cream and have been thoroughly impressed. Not only do I wake up with less oily skin, but I’ve also noticed increased hydration and smaller pores as the cream helps with gentle overnight exfoliation. It absorbs beautifully with no messy residue left on your pillows, and the scent is quite similar to the rest of the brand’s products- light, herbal and delightfully relaxing to fall asleep to at night. It’s truly hard to go wrong with this one.

Brown Eyed Toast - Latest Beauty Loves - Me Clear Anti Blemish Device - Main

me™ Clear Anti-Blemish Device

You all know how much I love my high-tech skincare. Music to my lazy but blemish-prone skin, me™ has created an amazing device that puts the power of blue-light therapy for acne right at your fingertips. Not only does the Clear Anti-Blemish Device kill pimple-causing bacteria with the blue light, it also utilizes sonic vibration to allow for gentle agitation of the skin to interact with the light as well as a heating element to further open up the pore. Both the vibration and heat are quite soothing on the skin, and more importantly, the combination works. Treated blemishes didn’t disappear overnight, but they did shrink significantly and the device absolutely helped with redness. I don’t believe in overnight fixes especially for stubborn pimples, but this device truly does help. My only tip: the cap stays on thanks to magnets, but it’s rather weak and comes loose quite easily. It’s best to take note and pack it accordingly. Also, don’t forget to disinfect the top with alcohol after every use so bad germs don’t linger. All in all, it’s only 14% of the price of better known, but not necessarily more effective, competitors so you might as well try (and you definitely should).

Brown Eyed Toast - Latest Beauty Loves - Neocutis Neck M61 Eye Serum La Mer Lip Balm - 2

NeoCutis Neck & Décolleté Rejuvenating Complex

People weren’t lying when they said your neck tells your age more than the face. This is because the neck & décolletage are so often neglected- hardly do people get excited about a new neck cream or even remember to moisturize it. Now go look in the mirror, I dare you. If you’re not happy with those neck lines, it’s time for you to get this cream asap.

Where do I even begin with this?? Anybody who knows me has probably heard about it at some point over the past year (that’s how long I’ve been using it!). The NeoCutis Neck & Décolleté Rejuvenating Complex is THAT good. You’ll find wrinkles becoming softer in just a few days and a more svelte neckline in just a week. And no matter how many times I use, discontinue, then use it again- it always yields the most amazing results. My guess as to its secret? The glycolic acid (second on the ingredient list), which helps exfoliate dead skin cells, and Tricaprylin (third on the list), which increases the skin’s ability to hold in moisture and in turn plumps up skin. In addition to its sheer efficacy, I also love the hygienic pump dispenser, which keeps air and germs out and prevents ingredients from breaking down. My personal tip: use Joanna Vargas’s Euphoria Mask for a luxurious facial, pat in excess serum into the neck, then moisturize the area with the NeoCutis Neck & Décolleté Complex. Your neck will look even more luminous than your face!

M-61 Hydraboost Eye Serum

For those unfamiliar, M-61 is Bluemercury’s proprietary brand, created by Co-Founder and CEO Marla Malcolm Beck, and the result of 13 years’ worth of experience in the beauty industry to provide the most effective and safe products. If you’re still lost, that’s ok- Bluemercury is a growing luxury beauty retailer that is making waves in the space (move over Sephora!) and now growing faster than ever after its acquisition by Macy’s in 2015. Normally, I don’t trust private labels as they’re usually substandard, but this M-61 Hydraboost Eye Serum is the real deal. It has a liquid-like consistency and soaks in like a dream while keeping the eye area hydrated all day. The ingredients are also impressive: Lactobacillus Ferment, which offsets harmful bacteria, is fourth on the list as well as three different kinds of peptides that follow thereafter with panthenol (aka Vitamin B5) and caffeine further down the list. Not only has this been my go-to eye serum lately, but I also anticipate this will be my summer staple for lightweight hydration.

La Mer The Lip Balm

La Mer’s Crème de la Mer is undoubtedly the brand’s most well-known product, but another cult favorite, albeit lesser known, is the Lip Balm. I recall this was the first product I ever tried from La Mer, and it remains a staple in my purse to this day. It was also a great way to dip my toes into the brand and get a sense of their high quality products. It’s definitely one of the pricier lip balms out there, but also much more effective than alternatives. One swipe of this will hydrate your lips and keep them so all day, while lower-priced competitors will require multiple applications to achieve similar results. I’m also a fan of the cooling sensation and the light, minty scent. If you’re new to La Mer, make sure to give this a go.

Brown Eyed Toast - Latest Beauty Loves - IGK Smoke and Mirror Conditioning Cleansing Oil - Main

IGK Smoke & Mirrors
Conditioning Hair Cleansing Oil

I’m rather lazy when it comes to my hair and leave it up to professional treatments for any management. That said, the IGK Smoke & Mirrors Conditioning Cleansing Oil is literally the only in-shower hair product I’ve ever continually used because it’s seriously praiseworthy. Basically a cleanser and conditioner in one, it left my hair feeling unbelievably smooth and hydrated, not to mention clean. Rarely do similar hair products combat scalp oiliness and dryness in the strands concurrently, but this does. Another benefit is the amazing scent, IGK’s own blend titled NYC of black pepper, blackberries, violet, geranium, and leather accord. Perhaps it’s my New Yorker bias, but this product has found a permanent spot in my shower.

Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt
Molecules 04 by Escentric Molecules

The world of fragrances is one that deserves a longer, if not series of, post(s), because it’s beautifully complex. There’s everything from the various layers of the fragrance notes, ingredients and methods used, the various olfactory (aka sense of smell) families, etc. But let’s dip our toes here with a mention of my two latest favorites.

Jo Malone’s Wood Sage & Sea Salt is a recent favorite, reminiscent of a light sea breeze and a summer jaunt through an open forest. The woody sage grounds the fragrance while the subtle salty notes also keep it airy. This is a beautiful and intimate scent, perfect for the summer, and I love carrying it around on my most-carefree days.

Lesser known to the masses but heralded as genius among fragrance connoisseurs, the Escentric Molecules brand is unique in that for every launch, there are actually two perfumes. The first is the Molecules perfume, which consists entirely of the main aroma-chemical diluted in alcohol. The other half of the pair is the more traditional fragrance, with various notes that complement the aroma-chemical. For the Escentric Molecules 04 launch, the main aroma-chemical is Javanol, a sandalwood molecule. While the Escentric 04 scent is also lovely, consisting of a javanol base with grapefruit, juniper, and rose notes, I’m especially partial to Molecule 04 scent. The milky sandalwood note is so subtle and fleeting- you’ll catch hints of it throughout the day as it comes and goes- that it remains ever alluring and enigmatic, just like the beautiful bottle in which it comes.

Thanks for sharing this! I love to read an honest opinion about skin care products. Especially tech devices are my new obsession. haha. I guess I’m not alone.

  • Reply Lana June 12, 2017 at 10:15 am

I’m very appreciate that you are building your opinion about the product not immediately after its use. Because I’ve noticed that some beauty products need more time than others. I think I like all products that you’ve mentioned, but I really would like to try NYC cleansing oil, as I have very dry skin, I think oil is better option for me, than tonic for example. And I love the packaging, so stylish!

I know, right?! Summer is definitely a season for everything new. So many makeup brand and collections are popping up every single day. I’m a huge fan of Caudalie, they always have something special to offer and, of course, Malin + Goetz. I haven’t tried this moisturiser yet, but I’m very intrigued. The La Mer lip balm looks so promising though, I wanna try it right away!
Not to mention how I love Jo Malone, but still had no chance to test out this Wood Sage. Thanks for sharing all these products, I’ll definitely check out some of them soon.

    Cheers, Eliza |

You an I seem to be on the same page when it comes to testing, trying, and reviewing new skin care items. You’ve descibesd Malin + Goetz as a very honest and upfront brand which really intrigues me. The Vitamin E Face Moisturizer sounds great as I haven’t tried a new basic moisturizer in two years.

Cauadalies Vinoperfect Overnight Renewal Cream sounds like it works wonders for those that have oily skin! It’s great to know what to recommend for my friends with different skin types than my own.

I’m excited about NeoCutis Neck & Décolleté Rejuvenating Complex. I never over look my neck because I’ve seen the results all to often of those that do! What a great tip to pair it with Johanna Vargus mask! I adore her, the spa, and the line!

I’ve yet to try anything La Mer but I am such a lip product fanatic that I must get this!

Jo Malone’s Wood Sage & Sea Salt sounds perfect for me. I’m not a fan of anything floral and really prefer more earthy deep scents! I need to get my hands on a sample of that!

Wow there are so many beauty products on the market and you’re right it is hard to decide which ones are really good and worth the hype. I’ll have to say out of all these that you tested and tried this go around, I am most intrigued by the Clear Anti-Blemish Device. I don’t break out as much as I did when I was younger, but this device is good to have on hand for those breakouts that happen. I also have heard so many wonderful things about the La Mer lip balm. I use the eye concentrate and the cream but I haven’t tried the lip balm but probably should because I hate having dry lips and reapplying all day long. This sounds like a good solution. The Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt is one of my go-to scents as well. Just love all the scents by Jo Malone and mixing them too. And finally, that NeoCutis Neck & Décolleté Rejuvenating Complex really has my attention. As I age I am starting to worry about neck lines and sagging too so hearing you review this product really makes me want to get it and try! Thanks for all the new beauty recs! xoxo, Christine

Ok Soo, I’m going to go bankrupt with all these amazing recommendations. The only things I’m not as interested in are the fragrances, but all things skincare? YAS! Sign me up. I’m really interested in the Me, Clear Anti-Blemish Device. I’ve been having stubborn (probably hormonal) acne around my chin that won’t seem to go away. I’m also glad that it’s not just a one time thing because I think that’s actually harmful in the long run.

I do have a question though: what’s the difference between using a moisturizer specifically for the neck and décolletage versus just a regular moisturizer?

Anyway, thanks for such an in-depth review. I think it’s amazing that you actually spend at least 2 weeks testing the products out because I don’t think any product really shows a drastic difference within a few days.

    Dear Soo,
Thank you so much for taking the time to thoughtfully and thoroughly test and reflect on all your beauty and skincare products before presenting and recommending them. I learn so much from you , not just in the products and brands you present but also in the methods and rigorous standards you use.
I would most definitely be interested in trying all of these products but the ones that intrigue me the most are the M-61 Hydra boast serum and the Blemish Device. It’s also quite true about your neck aging first and I’m too afraid to look now!!!!! I love your choice of scents. The Jo Malone is definitely one I’m going to try. Thank you so much for all of these suggestions and most of all for the reliable information. I know I can save each and every one of your posts and use them as guidelines for successful products.
Can’t wait to read more and try these!

I spotted your beauty flatlay on your Instagram feed and coudnt wait to check out your post!
It’s a beautiful shot with a minimal vibe which I really like. I totally know what you mean about the latest skin care products with new fangled ingredients as a beauty blogger myself it’s a bit overwhelming and you start to think yeah sure just another one Chuck it on the heap ha ha.
At the same time I love trying new Beauty products and will definitely give the ones on your list a shot.
I’ve never tried Malin & Goetez I know they stock it at Mecca Cosmetica which is Australians version Sephora and I do like the clean packaging and when we come to summer this sounds like a perfect moisturizer to try.
Thanks for letting me know about this anti blemish device and all the tips and tricks with it,I also love beauty tech and anything that helps in the blemish department sounds great.
I think I want to try all the beauty products in your line up! They all sound amazing.
The NeoCutis complex sounds perfect for me as I’m in my 30’s and am starting to see those dreaded wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity on the neck which I most certainly want to improve.
I’m glad to hear the La Mer lip balm truly is worth it before spending my money and I’ve actually never tried Jo Malone fragrances so those recommendations helped too.
Time to add all into my cart he he

Totally agree! There are so many products out there that’s hard to find out what works and what doesn’t.
I get to try a lot myself and I’m not a beauty blogger, can’t imagine what it must be like being you right now!
I’m actually hunting for a good day time moisturizer and this Malin + Goetz with sounds amazing bc it has Vitamin E.
As for the rest of the products, I haven’t heard about most of these, but if you’re recommending them they are on my list, especially the Jo Malone scent! I’ve been seeing it all over Insta and everyone describes it as AMAZING!
I’m so bad with taking care of my skin, but I’ve been using TreeHut lately and I feel great and my skin def looks better! You should definitely check them out!
Thanks for sharing girl! Have an awesome week!

You have always the best products. Love to read the very accurate description of what about productss. I was curious with your neck hydration. After all, we all know that we need to hydrate it, but we often ignore it. I’m using to the lights for my skin but I prefer the ultrasonic system I saw a lot of benefits.

Love to read your Beauty Reviews, So Detailed and I feel that you are 100% honest.
    This is very Important:)
If I test a product , I do at least 2 Weeks too or even more.
But my Skin is very Sensitive and Dry so Usually I try testers, if they have, and those are enough just for 1-2 days.
I use from your List just Caudalie Brand and 100% works for me:)
Jo Malone Fragrances I want to try so Much:) I seee everywhere:)
If you have a chance Try out ISDIN sooo Amazing brand:) You will Love:)

Wow! Great roundup! I see so many products I want to try. I’ve tried some of these brands but none of these specific products. The Me device looks interesting. My acne started flaring up and I’m at my wit’s end. I’m also in the market for a new moisturizer. And I second your thought about pumps – I hate when I have an expensive product with a screw top so it gets exposed to air and bacteria. So much more hygienic with a pump!

This is awesome! I couldn’t agree more, so many beauty products are coming out so fast it’s really hard to keep up with them. Sometimes I’ll hear about products that I never knew existed! I love when people do these types of posts because it really helps me learn about new products and get the chance to actually try them! I really enjoy the roundup of products you mentioned because as I said before, I had never heard about many of them. The one I’m the most curious to try is the Malin + Goetz Vitamin E Moisturizer. It sounds amazing! I am a huge fan of great mosturizers and I currently keep running out. I think it’s great to try new brands of products, to know what works best for your skin. Also, the me Clear Anti-Blemish Device sounds extremely interesting. I had never heard of a device like this one. Blemishes can be a real pain and I think this seems great! I really enjoyed reading about all of the products you like to use, and now I have some great ideas on what I should try next. Thank you so much for sharing babe, LOVED IT <3

Such a great review of beauty products babe! I always love reading other peoples opinions because you can make a judgement if you should try them or not specially because theres so many in the market.! LOVE the fact that you are including different brands for different uses. Im very tempted to try the IGK Smoke & Mirrors Conditioning Hair Cleansing Oil. I’m really looking forward to try more products for my hair!! I have always tried products for my skin and never done it with my hair. Thanks or sharing your opinions and essentials.

I am quite jealous of your skincare collection. I thought I had a lot, but not more than you! Haha quick question: does the Malin + Goetz mojito lip balm have a flavor 🙂 Cauadalie may be a good brand for me to try with my dry skin. Lord knows I could always use an improvement there with a new product! And as many times as I’ve passed a Jo Malone counter, I’ve never stopped to test one of their scents. That needs to change, as woody scents are my FAVE. Wood Sage & Sea Salt sounds like a dream!

Gosh, I wish I knew about skin care products as much as you do. Each time I read your posts I learn something new. I been using one skin care which is Clinique Moisturizer. Everything sounds amazing. Now I want to try Malin + Goetz Vitamin E Moisturizer. The blemish devise sounds great if you have pimples but I am lucky I don’t break out enough to use it. I know about La Mer and wish I could afford it, I had a sample once and it felt amazing on my skin. When it comes to hair I am lazy just like you, I don’t put much effort but I am very tempted to try the IGK Smoke & Mirrors Conditioning Hair Cleansing Oil. Now moving on to something that really grabbed my attention, the neck cream. You are so right the neck tells your age more than the face. I know as I am over 40 and my neck has more wrinkles than my face. Where can I purchase NeoCutis Neck & Décolleté Rejuvenating Complex ? The link doesn’t have an option to buy? Please let me know, I really want to try it and I do trust your review. Thank you for sharing, I learned so much from this post. I really need to take care of my skin!

Ok, this posted is just what I needed!! I became obsessed with skincare a few years ago but constantly feel overwhelmed by how many products are out there! Everything claims to be the best, so it’s nice to read a personalized view! I’ve been researching that Caudalie cream for weeks now so I’m glad to hear that you’re liking it! Smaller pores? Sign me up! I do love their products so I’ll have to try this one out myself! Thank you for going into depth on these, can’t wait for my next Sephora run! 😉 xx

Really love all the products that you have tried and they all do sound like what I would add to my beauty regime. Malin + Goetz is one of my favourite brands and this Vitamin E moisturiser sounds like a good one to use for skin repair and its oil free formula is perfect for the humid climate that I reside in. La Mer is such a prestigious brand and i have been wanting to try it. SOunds like a good idea to start with the lip balm first since it is smaller in size and definitely smaller pinch on the wallet too!
    thanks so much for sharing!

Omg, my wallet can’t handle any more new beauty product launches! lol But wow, these are some really great ones, definitely a few that I’d love to try. I already love all Caudalie products, so definitely have to give that a try. The me anti-blemish device and Smoke and Mirrors Cleansing oil sound like winners too, will have to give them a go as well!
  • Reply wanderlustts June 14, 2017 at 5:14 pm

Yes!! This is why I love your reviews babe. You are always so honest in everything you recommend. I’m always skeptical when bloggers advertise something as ‘the best skincare product you’ll ever try’ when they’ve only tried it for a day! 2 weeks minimum I agree.
I’ve always gravitated towards products with vitamin E when it comes to moisturizers because they’re amazing for the skin. Malin + Goetz is not a brand i’m too familiar with but it’s got what I look for so it’s definitely worth checking out.
And omg that Clear Anti Blemish Device sounds so intense!! I’m always so impress when I discover how advance some brands are.
But I’d have to say my favourite out of all the product is the La Mer Lip Balm. Honestly my lips are chapped year round…to the point where they would break out bleeding sigh. I’ve tried hundreds of lip balm but nothing seems to work. I wouldn’t mind forking over a few extra bucks if it means keeping my lips hydrated all day.

Your beauty product reviews are always so spot on!! To be honest, I’ve only know and tried a few of the products from this review. Malin + Goetz have amazing lip balm for sure, one of my favorite, and JoMalone I mean its pretty much a given that every blogger need to have one (for flatlay hahaha) but seriously I haven’t found a scent I don’t like from them. I’m super intrigued by the anti-blemish device. I’ve been breaking out lately from lack of sleep and this would be soooo handy!! Thanks again for introducing us to all the great products.

It’s so refreshing to see that you are being honest about your review and not just reviewing any products that you receive. And you are right, there’s a new line everyday that claims to be the best and it makes it so hard to choose the right product for your skin type. That’s why I appreciate your honest opinion. My new favorite is Caudalie, although I haven’t used the exact one you mentioned in your post, but I am pretty impressed with the whole line.

These are all so great! And you’re right I feel like I have so much trouble keeping up with what’s new in beauty! There’s always some new groundbreaking product. Okay first of all I love Malin +Goetz so I’ll have to try that out along with moisturizer along with the Caudalie overnight cream. Since you’re an expert at all of this, any recommendations on dry eyelids and eye creams? I’m in serious need of it! I don’t need anything for anti blemish but that eye serum does sound up my alley. Just wanna try the right thing!

That’s the problem. I’m not even a beauty blogger per se, but I still get beauty products sent to me ever so often and with this and that miracle ingredient it gets hard to actually decide what’s good and what’s not. That’s why I love an honest review like this and I know it’s not “what’s hot this week”, but what’s good for you and your skin for a while to come. That’s basically why I never try my products for less than two weeks either and there were some gems in here that I most certainly have to check out (blemishes be gone!).

Specially, I am interested in IGK Smoke & Mirrors Conditioning Cleansing Oil, moving to new place my hair feels dry than usual, I need some more hydration.
