Beauty Roundup: Latest Loves

November 6, 2017
Brown Eyed Toast x Latest Loves Nov 17 - Cover

Hi everyone! It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Of course, I must preface this post with an apology for my long absence. While I’m so thankful to have been working on so many exciting projects (more specifically on my Instagram feed) as well as redecorating our cozy NYC apartment, it has also kept me away from sitting down and properly putting my thoughts on paper. But fear not- I’m back with a fresh new beauty post for you!

There have been so many new products that I’m eager to share about, but 5 main products stood out from the rest, each from truly outstanding brands. From anti-aging, to acne care, down to brightening & hydrating, this list of products does it all.  Read on to learn more about these latest beauty loves!

Brown Eyed Toast x Latest Loves Nov 17 - Whamisa Glow Recipe Chai Tea Eye Cream and Fresh Black Tea Eye Cream.jpeg

Whamisa by Glow Recipe Chai Tea Eye Cream

One of my favorite brands lately is Glow Recipe. Not only is it the best (in my humble opinion) premier Korean beauty destination site with highly curated offerings, but their team recently collaborated with K-beauty brand Whamisa to launch an exclusive collection of chai and green tea infused products as well. Branded under Whamisa by Glow Recipe, these products combine gentle formulations (a hallmark of the Whamisa brand) and the innovation of the Glow Recipe team to create some new cult favorites.

Of these, the Chai Tea Eye Cream in particular stands out. Texture-wise, this lightweight cream absorbs instantly and works to depuff and hydrate the sensitive eye area. It truly feels like a burst of silky hydration. I tend to go a little overboard with eye cream, and even so, it sat well under a heavy layer of all-day makeup. Since using it, I’ve noticed a more awake and lifted contour around my eyes as well as rapid de-puffing after a bad night of rest.

The top-notch ingredient list includes items such as the flavonoid rich Rooibos Tea extract, which delivers a high level of antioxidants that are essential for neutralizing harmful free-radicals; Propolis, ideal for hydrating and conditioning; and Turmeric, best known for its anti-inflammatory and brightening qualities. And true to its name, the product has a delightful hint of chai spice to its fragrance- perfect for fall!

Fresh Black Tea Age Delay Eye Concentrate

As the temperature drops, I graduate my night-time skincare regimen into richer products that can adequately hydrate and nourish my skin. Fresh Beauty’s Black Tea line is perfect for just that. Their proprietary complex of various tea (of course, black tea being the primary) and fruit leaf extracts blend powerful antioxidants and hydrating ingredients, ideal for helping your skin heal and rebuild overnight. As I tend to focus most of the anti-aging efforts on my eyes (the damage done there is nearly irreversible!), I naturally gravitated toward the signature eye cream in this line.

The Black Tea Age Delay Eye Concentrate has a velvety, rich texture and truly feels indulgent. While I prefer to apply a heavy dollop of this in the evenings, it’s also ideal for morning applications on especially cold days and also works as a fantastic eye primer. After using for approximately three weeks, I noticed that previously crepey-areas were diminished and a stubborn, lone wrinkle under my right eye looked noticeably softer. Needless to say, I’ll be keeping this one close at hand as we head into Winter.

Malin + Goetz Acne Treatment for Night-time

If you ask me about the one product that has changed my life, this is it.

Malin + Goetz’s Acne Treatment for the Night-time is an absolute must have for anybody suffering for cystic acne. It pains me to say that at my age, I still suffer from these frequently due to genetics and hormones. And frankly, I’m hitting myself for not having discovered this magical product sooner.

I’m not talking about your tiny blemishes, one-off pimples, and blackheads here and there (although this will work on all of those as well). That’s cute. But let’s not kid- I’m talking about those deep below your skin, throbbing monstrosities that plague you for weeks.  Only honest aestheticians, dermatologists, and beauty aficionados will tell you that time and cortisol shots are the only surefire cures to cystic flareups. Anybody who promises an instant solution is lying, because nearly nothing helps with cystic acne quickly and efficiently.

Having said that, this Malin + Goetz Night-time Acne Treatment is the next best thing. The winning combination of 10% sulfur, salicylic acid, camphor and zinc is the most effective spot treatment I have ever used. It will not flatten those cystic pimples overnight (although it certainly did for much smaller, brewing pimples), but it will significantly reduce them with constant, night time application to near flatness in 4 days. All you need to do is dip a Q-tip into the white sulfur sludge and dot onto the needed areas (it does dry into a solid, white paste- hence the night time label).

By the end of a week’s regimen, the spot was completely flat and the clogged comedone was ready for easy extraction. Compared to weeks of pain, embarrassment, and stress about acne of all things, 4 days is nothing.

And what better proof of a ringing endorsement than showing my nearly empty bottle and a second full bottle, already lined up to take its place? If I could sing about this product from the rooftops, I would.

Cane + Austin Acne Retexture Pads

You all know how much I love the Cane + Austin brand. After trying their amazing sunscreen products, I couldn’t stop there and continued to experiment with more from their line. And as someone still plagued with acne, these Acne Retexture Pads immediately caught my eye several months ago, and I’ve been using it ever since.

When my blemishes are somewhat under control, I absolutely love using Cane + Austin’s Acne Retexture Pads for easy skin maintenance. These pads really do everything. The 2% salicylic acid helps to penetrate deep into pores to unclog and break down dead skin cells effectively, making it a pro for acne prevention, while the 5% glycolic acid provides gentle exfoliation over time. Not only are these pads excellent for treating acne-prone skin, but after using them, I also noticed a more refined skin texture and higher moisture levels.

And again, what better proof is there than my nearly empty container and a new one ready to go once I run out? (Full disclosure: I actually have two more stockpiled because it’s that good.)

Brown Eyed Toast x Latest Loves Nov 17 - Cane and Austen Acne Retexture Pads.jpeg Brown Eyed Toast x Latest Loves Nov 17 - ISDIN Flavo C Ultraglican 1.jpeg

ISDIN Flavo-C Ultraglican

Despite my penchant for all things beauty and skincare related, I’ve never been much a fan of ampoules or capsules. Considering these are probably some of the freshest if not the most potent product types, it sounds odd, right?

To explain why, here’s another confession: I am embarrassingly lazy. That’s not always a bad thing, I promise! But this does mean I prioritize products that are most effective with the least amount of steps as possible. The prospect of having to store additional tiny bottles, break open capsules for every application, etc. just seemed like unnecessary stress. Until I met ISDIN’s Flavo-C Ultraglican that is.

Just as their sunscreen, which I previously raved about here, did not disappoint, this too hit it out of the park. Each ampoule contains a potent amount of Vitamin C, which as we all know aids in brightening the skin and reducing inflammation, as well as ultraglicans, which quadruples the production of hyaluronic acid in our skin. And because Vitamin C is so susceptible to breaking down with exposure to oxygen and light, these individually sealed, dark ampoules are crucial in increasing the longevity of the formula.

It’s recommended that each ampoule, once opened, should be used within 24 hours. A plastic cap is also provided (see photo below) to cover the opening and limit oxygen exposure. To be honest, each unit has so much liquid that I was able to stretch each one over as many as three applications. Just make sure to cap it as soon as possible and store them in a dark place.

The results? After four weeks of usage (with results in only two), I found my skin to be incredibly plumper, radiant, and balanced. My normally combination skin felt remarkably hydrated and simply put, healthy and nourished. And while I don’t have many sun spots on my face, I did notice that the back of my hands, which do show more sun damage and are where I normally rub the residual amounts of my products, looked as if someone had turned back the clock.

I’m still not sold on using ampoules, but for these ISDIN Flavo-C Ultraglican vials, I’ll gladly make an exception.

I also just discovered Glow Recipe and now I need to get my hands on all their products! I haven’t tried their eye cream yet but you better believe I will! K-Beauty is totally revolutionizing the beauty industry and I’m so glad is now easily accessible here in the US. I’ve also never been much a fan of ampoules or capsules – but lately my super dry skin has been loving the ones I’ve been trying. Such little things make a huge difference! Thanks for sharing your faves – I’ll have to go try more of them soon!

Welcome back love! Loving this beauty round up. I have been looking for an eye cream and the chai tea by glow recipe sounds amazing. I don’t have acne prone skin. I’m more on the drier side but I do love myself some malin + goetz. Thanks for sharing

I love your skincare product reviews because 1) I learn about new brands, 2) I am a skincare fanatic too, and 3) you are honest and thoughtful in your reviews. Of these products, I really want to try that Chai Tea eye cream since I am always concerned about my eyes. The fine lines, the crows feet, the dark circles you name it. This sounds like an amazing eye cream to try and I am always down to support my fellow Koreans. =) I also want to try these Vitamin C ampoules. I too don’t like ampoules since I have a smaller face and it seems like a waste if I don’t use it all in one application, so I love that these have a cap you can put on if you don’t use the entire application at once. I tend to have here and there breakouts, but will definitely recommend these Cane + Austin products to my friends who get stubborn cystic acne! Thanks for the roundup of amazing products! xoxo, Christine

Girl I love it when you do beauty reviews it’s great to hear your thoughts and opinions about the latest beauty products.
And your photography is always beautiful and so stylish.
I’m totally a beauty junkie too so you definitely need to do more of these!
We all need a good eye cream in our lives , I also probably use way to too much product ha ha.
It’s amazing that Whamisa by glow recipe chai tea eye cream has Turmeric as it’s such a great anti-inflammatory!
My mother puts it in all foods she literally sprinkles it on everything and everything is orange ha ha.
It does sound like it would de puff and brighten the eye area with such a powerhouse of great ingredients.
I honestly want to try all five of your picks especially the ampules as I haven’t really used products like that before.
I use a lot of serums with vitamin C in it so why not try something different , especially if ampules keep the vitamin C more potent.

    Hey beauty,
How are you? From behalf of our community it’s good to have you back. I wondered where you had gone but it’s great to hear you are going to keep posting. I totally love love when you do posts like these. I really enjoy reading about your opinion on different products because it gives me and others, I’m sure, a good idea on what new products we can try out. I own tons and tons of eye creams but I can never have enough of them. This one specifically sounds amazing and I’d definitely love to try it out. Acne can truly be a pain, I don’t tend to break out but when I do I always like to have a good acne-cream handy and ready to go when needed. Thank you so much for sharing, I loved reading all about these products!

I love to reading your feeds of the products . The first eye products makes me curious for my dark circles at morning lol, sometimes also the puffiness too. Fortunately I’m doesn’t suffer of acne but this information can help many people.
The Isdin product I know and using the sunscreen 100+ every day but I never heard before of the C vit. ampoules. This is perfect

The Chai Tea Eye Cream sounds phenomenal. I’ve only really tested out a few eye creams so I’d love to try this after your fantastic review. I like that it’s lightweight cream absorbs so quickly. It seems to be good for use in day and night. Flavonoids + Tumeric are so wonderful for the skin it fantastic that they are included in this cream. It’s wonderful that the Black Tea Age Delay Eye Concentrate can used as a makeup primer. I really like when products take up multiple steps. It’s good to know that this is a product that really does work and help to reduce fine lines.
Malin + Goetz’s Acne Treatment for the Night-time sounds incredible for those that have suffered with cystic acne and like it’s really done wonders for you. I do get hormonal breaks outs every now and then so it’s nice to know that this can be used in that way as well! Could I use the Cane + Austin Acne Retexture Pads if I don’t often get acne? Are they okay to use for the sole purposed of retexturing? I’m right there with you when it comes to anything in capsules and for me it’s because I feel like they’re messy and I waste product which I’m not a fan of that. I love that ISDIN’s Flavo-C Ultraglican has a cap that closes well but do you think that the product maintains despite putting it in a dark area and sealing it quickly? Just curious because of the 24hr recommendation. It sounds like it works wonderfully though and definitely a product I must try.

Welcome back Soo! Glad to heart that you have had fun redecorating your apartment. There’s so many products you’ve mentioned here that I’d love to try, especially the acne retexture pads. Salicyllic acid is always so great for acne prone skin and these sound like they are gentle enough for regular use. As a lover of chai tea, it’s great to see that this tea has other fantastic benefits- this eye cream sounds brilliant! The fact that it absorbs quickly is great, as there’s nothing worse than really watery and sticky eye products.

Welcome back! I have missed reading your posts! I have been hearing a lot about Glow Recipe! I am new to the Korean beauty scene, so I never really know what products to buy. The Chai Tea Eye Cream sounds heavenly! One of my main problem areas is around my eyes.
The Cane + Austin Retexture Pads also sound interesting. I have acne prone skin so the 2% salicylic acid in these pads would be great for me. Is this product good for darker skin types? I have to be careful with products because my skin gets pigmented easily.

    Thanks for sharing!

Soo, I always look forward to reading your round ups! I, for one am a beauty junkie and pretty much like to try any and every product out there to see what works best for my dry skin. Out of all the skin products you shared, I am most curious to try the Chai Tea Eye Cream. I also tend to go overboard with my eye creams because I have really dry undereye skin and I rarely get enough sleep. In all my years of using skincare, I have also never tried or even heard of ampoules. I may need to get on that. We could all use more production of hyaluronic acid for our aging skin!

Your beauty and skincare review is something I always look forward to. You bring light to new brands and products and like me, you actually use them before posting the review and I really appreciate the effort and personal care. From this post, I would love to try the Chai Tea Eye Cream, it sounds great for sensitive eyes and anything that depuffs sounds good to me. I also want to try the ACNE pads, I’ve heard and read many rave reviews on them so this is def on my list to try. And can we say an Aman to Malin + Goetz’s Acne Treatment? I have cystic acne when it is that time of the month and they are deep and painful and the night time treatment sounds like a dream!! Another great review and I look forward to a new one!

My secret little hobby is to read lots of skincare reviews! I’m always on the look out for the next big thing and I love to read trusted recommendations. Chai Tea is definitely a new ingredient for me – I mean, I love to drink it but I haven’t had this in skincare. I’m surprised I haven’t heard of ampoules. I feel like there are so many products here that my skin could benefit from!

    Thanks for sharing, lovely!

Already when you announced this on your Instagram I told you I was curious about the acne products and it’s not because I have severe acne, but I do have my breakouts every now and then and we all know, pimples are not fun to live with. As a background story I can tell you that I did suffer from severe acne as a teen though, so I know what I’m talking about when I say my sympathies go out to everyone who still suffer from this. Seems like both Malin + Goetz and Cane and Austin are here to help us out regarding that and I’m truly eager to try the pads from the latter!
